Alumni Memories . . .
"So many memories made! "I will forever remember those early Saturday morning rehearsals on the football field before competitions. The sun was still asleep, but we were out there in the chilly, autumn fog going through sets and getting ready to compete. It seems like every experience in band is a memory that made friends feel more like family." Staci W. "Since I was in band from my freshman to my senior year, I have many special memories. To pick just one is very difficult. I was a majorette, a majorette captain, and a featured twirler(majorette). I have always been enamored with costumes and music shows. In 1981, under the Band Director William McClanahan,I watched how he would write our marching band shows on grid paper. I took that knowledge and the knowledge of making up routines for twirling baton and used it several years later with the Jr Pro Major Cheerleaders. I used grid paper and the count of 8 to make up their movements. They won 1st Place! I LOVED being a member of the band! It was truly some of the best years of my life!" Charlene H. "I think my most cherished memory was the last competition of our fall season. Everyone was bundled up like Eskimos and ready for the dreaded circle after the results of the event were announced. Singing the Alma mater and laughing and crying bitter sweet tears, but together as a group, thinking about everything we have accomplished in our last four years as members of the regiment. Thinking about how my younger sister will get to experience the same thrilling emotions I did and cherish them years to come." - Sarah W. "I am a PROUD alumni member of the HCHS Marching and Concert Bands. I became a member my Sophomore year, having been recruited by dear friends to play bells on the drumline under the section leadership of David S. England. Under the direction of Mr. Bryan Henson, we won many awards and made wonderful memories. I served as Band President my Senior year 1990-1991, and received 8 MTSBOA Solo and Ensemble blue ribbons as well as the John Philip Sousa Award. The "Right Stuff" will ALWAYS be a part of my heart, and I will forever cherish the friends and memories in those three years." - Cherie W. "The truth is I don't have just one specific special memory with band. To me every memory of my 4 years with the Scarlet Regiment was special. We had our good times and our bad, but in the end we were a family. I hated having to leave the band and passing my leadership role to someone new, but I truly feel that the band will excel in coming years and I look forward to seeing the great things it will accomplish." - Destiny H. |
